PeopleNet, a provider of Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for effective fleet management, announced Monday, Oct. 5, that Dart Transit Co. is in the process of installing PeopleNet. The announcement was made at the American Trucking Associations’ 2009 Management Conference and Exhibition being held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev.

With more than 2,500 trucks, Dart offers coast-to-coast and regional service in the South, Midwest and Southeast, short-haul service in several major markets and dedicated service to large companies. The Dart network of companies provides shippers with logistics and brokerage services, intermodal rail service, warehousing and portable storage.

“PeopleNet’s open platform and its adaptability to our changing needs are important in helping us continue to offer our customers exceptional service and improve our operational efficiency as we celebrate our 75th year in business,” says Dan Lyddy, Dart’s vice president of information systems. “Their decision-tree format is extremely easy to use, prompting drivers for all required information. In addition, safe messaging that doesn’t distract drivers and use of electronic logs are critical to helping us meet our safety goals.”

With PeopleNet onboard, Dart Transit Co. is electronically monitoring hours of service (via eDriver Logs) to help drivers stay in compliance, as well as vehicle and driver performance data (via PerformX) to help management identify areas that need attention. PeopleNet says Pacos, its geofencing application, automates driver and dispatch functions for optimizing customer service and provides critical performance data to Dart’s owner-operators that helps them increase the efficiency of stops and improve supply-chain communications; in addition, PeopleNet Link expedites the integration of these applications with Dart’s back-office systems, and Logistics Intelligence dashboard reporting provides both real-time exception-based engine performance data and drill-down comparative and flexible reporting.
