Greatwide Logistics Services, a national provider of third-party logistics services, on Monday, Jan. 17, announced that it has acquired the contracts, personnel and equipment of Overton Transportation, a subsidiary of Sysco Corp. The business will be integrated under the Greatwide Freight brand. Terms were not released.

Overton currently has 70 tractors, 100 trailers and 133 employees located in La Vergne, Tenn. Greatwide says that through the use of team drivers, it will operate expedited temperature-controlled service from coast to coast, allowing for fast transit of perishable goods from the grower to wholesale and retail distribution points.

“The acquisition of Overton Transportation allows us to provide new temperature-controlled logistics solutions that many of our grocery customers have requested,” says John Simone, president and chief operating officer of Greatwide Logistics Services. “Overton also enhances our capabilities in our current one-way truckload offering. When combined with our dedicated and brokerage competencies, there are significant opportunities to collaborate and innovate in ways neither of us could have done on our own.”
