Meritor WABCO announced that two of its safety technologies – OnGuard Collision Safety System and SmartTrac Stability Control System – have been integrated into two large North American transportation fleets, Wal-Mart and U.S. Xpress.

“These fleets pride themselves on making safety a priority in delivering outstanding service,” says Jon Morrison, president and general manager of Meritor WABCO, “It’s an honor they have recognized our proven safety innovations meet their standards.”

OnGuard is an always-on forward-looking radar-based collision safety system designed to detect objects in a vehicle’s path and automatically engage the throttle and engine retarder while applying the brakes when it senses an impending collision, thereby assisting the driver in avoiding rear-end collisions. OnGuard features both adaptive cruise control and active braking, which helps assist the driver in maintaining a safe following distance. In addition, the technology’s collision mitigation system is designed to detect a potential rear-end collision developing ahead and respond by braking as needed to assist the driver in avoiding a collision.

Meritor WABCO’s SmartTrac family represents ABS, automatic traction control, electronic stability control and roll stability control, all of which are designed to assist the driver in reducing vehicle accidents and reducing overall vehicle operating costs.
