TSC Global – a provider of sales, marketing and distribution of consumer brand products to America’s top retailers, travel centers and truckstops – announced at The New NATSO Show 2011 a free program for independent truckstop operators. The Retail Merchandising Solutions program for store design, layout, inventory control and pricing services is designed to help truckstops improve profitability.

“The more than 15 truckstop operators who have allowed our RMS team to review their location have experienced double-digit retail sales growth overall, with the biggest growth coming in the convenience categories,” says Darren Schulte, vice president of RMS at TSC Global. “What began as ad hoc requests has now become a value-added service offered free of charge to help travel centers grow their business and, most importantly, improve financial performance.”

The RMS program was formalized when TSC Global acquired Barjan in late 2010. TSC Global says its Retail Merchandising Solutions program addresses several management challenges for independent truckstop operators, offering a detailed, custom assessment of each facility with recommendations for product categories, retail space planning, merchandising, ordering and selling. TSC Global says the RMS group also can focus on training staff and management on the fundamentals of running a retail store.

“As the industry changes, truckstop owners need to compete in a business that is increasingly more competitive and retail-savvy,” Schulte says. “A well-designed shopping environment attracts customers, creates focal points, assists in the prevention of out-of-stock issues before they occur, drives inventory productivity and reduces operating costs. Through RMS, we are committed to serving as a solutions provider and to using our product and merchandising expertise to help truckstops generate profit.”
