FedEx Trade Networks, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and an international ocean and air freight forwarder, announced the grand opening of its new Chicago gateway office, providing expanded service offerings to customers, including a portfolio of freight forwarding, customs brokerage and distribution solutions. The office has more than 104,000 square feet of space with more than 85,000 square feet dedicated to distribution, and is located strategically with access to Chicago O’Hare International airport and intermodal rail facilities.

The office’s proximity to the airport and rail yards, and onsite warehouse and distribution capabilities, enables the FedEx Trade Networks Chicago office to serve as a gateway to support the end-to-end supply chain needs of the company’s freight forwarding and customs brokerage customers. The company says that in utilizing a gateway operating model in Chicago, it can provide efficient and cost-effective entry/exit point solutions for consolidated heavyweight international cargo shipments.

“Chicago is a major global commercial market, home to one of the busiest airports in the U.S., and America’s rail gateway for ocean cargo,” said Fred Schardt, president and chief executive officer of FedEx Trade Networks. “By expanding our Chicago operations to offer additional distribution space and services, we can provide our customers with streamlined gateway solutions that can improve efficiency, transit times and overall costs. Enhancing our North American infrastructure is also a key component of our global expansion. As we continue to grow our global footprint and open offices around the world, we are reinforcing our North American offices to support our growth as a company.”
