eStar, the all-electric truck by Navistar, was a sponsor and participant in the Earth Day New York CO2 E Drive on Friday, April 22. The event helped raise climate change awareness and featured a parade of environmentally-friendly vehicles painting a virtual “E” on the streets of New York. Using GPS technology, the “E” route progress was tracked on billboards throughout Times Square. Following the drive, eStar and a select number of other vehicles participated in a green vehicle runway presentation in Times Square.

“For decades, Navistar has demonstrated a commitment to technologies that benefit the environment and our customers, which is why eStar was created,” says Mark Aubry, vice president of sales and marketing electric vehicles for Navistar. “This event is an opportunity to show why eStar is such an exciting product with potential to revolutionize the commercial truck industry and transform thinking when it comes to clean, efficient transportation.”

Capable of carrying payloads up to two tons, the eStar medium-duty truck offers features such as a low center of gravity (the battery is between the frame rails, not mounted on top), walk-through cab and a cassette-type battery, which allows for easy maintenance and is suited for around-the-clock operation. With zero tailpipe emissions, each eStar truck potentially can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 10 tons annually.
