Ryder System Inc. announced that it recently received Delphi’s 2010 Above & Beyond Award, one of the company’s Pinnacle Family of Awards. The award, established in 2006 and presented annually, recognizes suppliers for special service events that went beyond contractual obligations during the 2010 calendar year. Ryder provides supply chain design and execution activities for Delphi’s North American network, as well as cross-dock and transportation services for Delphi in the United States and Mexico.

Delphi says the award was presented to Ryder specifically for its actions during Hurricane Alex in 2010, when the company took aggressive steps to ensure the Delphi operations were not affected by the impending storm. As the hurricane approached, Ryder’s team of logistics experts located at Delphi’s cross-dock operations modified their processes to allow for extended storage and metering of material so that plant operations could continue without interruption.

“We are honored once again to be recognized for our commitment to best-in-class operational execution,” says Ryder President of Global Supply Chain Solutions John Williford. “We value our longstanding relationship with Delphi and appreciate their confidence in our ability to meet their service levels.”

This year, Delphi recognized 18 suppliers from nine countries with its 2010 Above & Beyond Award. “Congratulations to Ryder,” says Sid Johnson, vice president of Delphi Global Supply Management. “Congratulations to their team for their many contributions at our facilities and for their dedication to excellence.”
