Fontaine Trailer Co. has named Randy McGuire president of the company’s Heavy-Haul business unit based in Springville, Ala., where he will be responsible for growing the heavy-haul business using 80/20 principles to understand which products and customers are best suited to serve this market.

“We’re delighted to have Randy leading this important business focusing on the needs of heavy-haul customers,” says John Craig, president of Jasper, Ala.-based Fontaine Trailer Co. “He has an industrywide reputation for taking care of customers, a keen perspective and broad depth of experience.”

McGuire began his career with Marmon Highway Technologies at Fontaine Trailer in 1987 as a draftsman and CNC programmer. He completed his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Alabama in Huntsville while working full time at Fontaine, being promoted to engineering manager. McGuire was promoted to vice president of engineering at Fontaine and in 2005 took on the role of general manager of the Fontaine Fabrication Shop.

In 2007, he was promoted to president of Webb Wheel Products – Transit Business Unit, where he successfully led Webb Transit to grow to a dominant position in the transit and coach brake drum market. This growth path for Webb Transit continued upward with new niche-focused marketing efforts that eventually lead to changing the business unit name from Webb Transit to Webb Severe Duty.
