NAFTA trade up 15.7 percent in May

Surface transportation trade between the United States and North American Free Trade Agreement partners Canada and Mexico rose 15.7 percent in May over May 2010, to $77.3 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

BTS reported surface transportation trade with Canada year over year increased 15.1 percent to $46.3 billion, while trade with Mexico rose 16.6 percent to $31.0 billion.

Surface transportation includes freight movements by truck, rail, pipeline, mail and Foreign Trade Zones. In May, 84.8 percent of U.S. trade by value with Canada and Mexico moved via land.
