Firestone announced that it has committed to a number of initiatives than can contribute to industrywide weight reductions aimed at reducing carbon emissions through better fuel economy. The company says its work on new lighter-weight parts is one of these initiatives, and Firestone’s next-generation air spring will offer weight reductions of up to 1.5 pounds per spring, a savings of up to 6 pounds per tandem.

Firestone says it has developed a comprehensive and exhaustive series of tests to ensure that its products will stand up to customer expectations on the road, and that its next-generation Airide air springs will meet or exceed current performance levels.
