Qualcomm Inc. announced the appointment of Rafael Steinhauser as senior vice president and president of Qualcomm Latin America. Steinhauser will be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will report to Jing Wang, executive vice president and president of Global Business Operations. Flavio Mansi, who joined Qualcomm in 2001 and has been senior vice president and president of Qualcomm Latin America for the past two years, will be transitioning to other opportunities within the company.

“Latin America’s burgeoning 3G adoption presents significant business opportunities for Qualcomm and its partners in the ecosystem,” Wang says. “We are fortunate to have Rafael join our Latin America team. His track record of success and proven leadership enables us to embrace growing opportunities in Latin America.”

Steinhauser brings more than 25 years of sales and executive leadership experience in the high-tech and telecommunications industries to Qualcomm, having held executive-level positions at Acision and NextWave, where he was president of Latin America operations; and at Cisco and Nortel, where he was president of Brazil operations. Additionally, from 1990 to 2000, Steinhauser was involved with Qualcomm in various capacities, including as head of mobile satellite services for Qualcomm partner Eutelsat in Europe, and then as director of Qualcomm South America and as vice president of Qualcomm Brazil.
