The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced plans to conduct a study of the differences among the characteristics of individual commercial drivers. FMCSA says this information collection will aid the agency in developing future safety initiatives by examining a wide array of driver and situational factors to determine if they are associated with increased or decreased crash and incident involvement.

FMCSA says the study would be handled through a research contractor and has submitted an Information Collection Request to the Office of Management and Budget for its review and approval; the agency also has invited public comment. To comment, go to www.regulations.gov; the docket number is FMCSA-2011-0225.
