TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index released Wednesday, Oct. 12, saw load volumes remain strong in September with a 12 percent increase year-over-year and down slightly from August levels. September recorded the sixth-highest load volume this year, the highest September volume for the last five years, and remains at pre-recessionary levels.

Third-quarter volume was the highest since TransCore began recording data in 2001 when TransCore acquired Link Logistics. The quarter was also up 9 percent from the 2010 third quarter. The 2011 third quarter also reflects the annual summer slowdown in freight movement and saw an 18 percent decrease from the 2011 second quarter.

Equipment postings in September were down 6 percent from this year’s record-setting month in August. Capacity was 6 percent below recorded levels for September 2010, while the equipment-to-loads ratio dropped slightly for the first time since June 2011.
