Old Dominion Freight Line has named Dave Bates senior vice president of operations, responsible for day-to-day operations, including tracking and improving the company’s service and productivity. He has worked at Old Dominion for more than 15 years, most recently serving as vice president of the Central States Region.

Bates will be filling the position previously held by Greg Gantt, recently appointed to executive vice president and chief operating officer. “Dave’s impressive resume includes managing three Old Dominion facilities and helping to develop the vital planning system that we use to organize pickups and deliveries,” Gantt says. “I am confident that his long history as a part the Old Dominion family will serve him well as he takes on new responsibilities.”

Before his promotion to vice president of the Central States Region, Bates managed the company’s service centers in Miami; Allentown, Pa.; and Harrisburg, Pa. He will be relocating to the company’s headquarters in Thomasville, N.C., from Edwardsville, Kan.
