Decker Truck Line Inc. has announced plans to add up to 50 new drivers in conjunction with the opening of its new $2 million terminal in Bessemer, Ala. The Iowa-based company will move about 50 of its 200 newly purchased tractors and trailers to the new Bessemer site.

Decker Truck Line purchased the new Powder Plant Road facility in early November, which adds 15,700 square feet of shop space and another 8,000 square feet of office space, and plans to use the building as its new Birmingham terminal. This location will serve 16 Southeastern states and will include operations, dispatch and maintenance for a fleet of nearly 70 Decker trucks, which will primarily be flatbed.

Don Decker, president and chairman, says the expansion was necessitated due to recent growth. “We’ve doubled in size over the last eight years in Alabama, growing from 30 trucks to nearly 70,” Decker says.
