West Brothers’ Transportation Services, a Southeast dedicated trucking provider, announced it has won four first place awards in safety for its performance in 2010.
The Safety Management Council of the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA) named WBTS first place in the following categories:
• First Place, Lowest Accident Rate – 10 to 25 Million Mile Category;
• First Place, Lowest Accident Rate – Local Division Category; and
• Grand Champion, Lowest Accident Rate – All Fleets.

WBTS also was honored with the first award from AAA for being the overall safest carrier in North Carolina: AAA Ambassador in Safety, Safest Fleet in North Carolina.

WBTS presented for only three U.S. Department of Transportation-reportable accidents during 19.6 million miles driven by 227 drivers, and competed against more than 35 other truckload carriers across both North and South Carolina for these honors. WBTS has been recognized for its low accident rates by the NCTA as well as several other industry organizations for the past eight years.

“Our top priority at West Brothers is to be the safest carrier on the road,” says Tony Lovette, president of Durham, N.C.-based WBTS. “These awards are a tremendous reflection on our safety philosophy as a fleet and our dedication to smart business practices.”

All WBTS drivers undergo a comprehensive safety program, and training on safe driving methods continues throughout their tenure. WBTS maintains an employee-training center onsite, and potential drivers must have a minimum two-year safe driving record to pass the company’s initial screening.

“Our safety record would not be possible without the contributions of our entire staff,” says Ralph Clemons, vice president of safety for WBTS and Brown Integrated Logistics. “West Brothers and Brown Trucking are committed to a safety culture, and we live it every day.”
