Old Dominion launches OD Household Services

Old Dominion Freight Line has launched OD Household Services, a new service targeting consumers looking for an economical and reliable moving alternative. With OD Household Services, Old Dominion delivers the trailer, allowing consumers to pack and load their own belongings.

Old Dominion then picks up the trailer and delivers it to the consumer’s new address, whether across town or cross-country. Consumers are only charged for the trailer space that they use, making the service an economical alternative to traditional and do-it-yourself moving services.

“Expanding into the household moving market is a natural extension of our business objectives,” says Marty Freeman, senior vice president of sales and national accounts at Old Dominion Freight Line. “Our company’s more than 75 years of shipping expertise and solid track record as a leader in the transportation industry makes OD Household Services the perfect moving partner.”

Old Dominion is utilizing existing resources to operate the service. The company will transport household goods on its fleet of pup trailers through its network of 216 domestic service centers. In addition, on light or empty lanes, the company will fill unused trailer space behind household goods with less-than-truckload general commodity freight.
