The Healthy Trucking Association of America on Tuesday, May 1, announced the winners of its first-ever Healthy Trucking Awards co-sponsored by Navistar and FusionHealth. At its annual HTAA Summit in Atlanta, Navistar presented the Healthy Trucking Driver of the Year award, which credits the healthy choices and behaviors of real truckers, to Allen Herndon from Heartland Express.

“The health and safety of our drivers are paramount to the success of our industry,” says Thomas Slavin, Navistar global safety and health director. “We’re excited to be involved in an organization that rewards drivers who are working to make their personal lives better through diet, exercise, restful sleep and lifestyle changes. Navistar and International Truck works hard to ensure the safety and comfort of the men and women who drive our trucks, and promoting their health and well-being is a natural extension of that.”

Herndon is from Chickasaw, Ala., and has been a driver for more than 20 years. Part of his daily regiment includes running, stationary biking in his cab, preparing his own meals and getting quality sleep. For winning the award, he receives a $2,500 International Advantage Card Credit, an individual HTAA one-year membership and an opportunity to share his healthy lifestyle practices through a position as an International Life on the Road blogger.

Other finalists for the award included Siphiwe Balekabeyel of Prime Inc., Robert Dixon of Southeastern Freight Lines and Mike Schoelles of Saia Inc.
