The national average diesel price for the week ended Dec. 24 dropped 2 cents from the previous week to $3.923, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. That price is 13.2 cents higher than the same week in 2011.

The average price dropped in all regions except California, which saw a rise of just one tenth of a cent. The West Coast saw the smallest decline — 0.8 cents — while the Rocky Mountain region had the largest, 7.5 cents. The Rocky Mountain region also had the nation’s lowest average, $3.791 per gallon, and the New England region had the highest average, $4.153 — due most likely to lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy’s impact on the region.
