How you relate to your peers and your drivers says a lot about the type of manager you are. Knowing your management style can help provide better insight and improve relationships with associates that work with and for you. But how many fleet managers actually know their personal management style?
Ryder wants to help answer that question. The company has developed and launched a free online tool that helps fleet managers determine which of the seven fleet management profiles you fit into:
- Loyalist
- Pragmatist
- Conscientious operator
- Commander
- Free agent
- Hunter
- Researcher
“This is a way for Ryder to share back with the industry and with individual fleet managers and decision makers to help create a personal connection to the professions they are in,” says Samuel Johnson, Ryder’s vice president of marketing. “Instead of just creating a white paper, we’ve created content that is interactive and relevant and easily digestible.”
After taking a short survey, Ryder’s Fleet Manager Profile tool places the respondent into one of the seven categories and provides a description of their management style, and respondents can fill out a form to get more detailed analysis on their management style in a full report to help develop their overall fleet strategy.
“The white paper gives you a detailed report of all the different personality styles we’ve identified,” says Johnson. “It provides the pros and cons of each style and offers suggestions for improvement. It’s not meant to be prescriptive, rather it can be used to sharpen your radar so that you know there isn’t only one way to manage your fleet.”
