The for-hire trucking industry added more than 10,000 jobs in February, wiping out a sizable loss seen in January and pushing industry employment to a new high.
The Department of Labor in its monthly Employment Situation Report indicated the for-hire industry’s employment grew by 10,600 jobs, the biggest month gain since December 2014.
The U.S. economy as a whole added 235,000 jobs in the month, the DOL reported. The country’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent.
Trucking industry employment totaled 1.4704 million, according to the DOL, up from last February’s 1.454.3 million.
The broader transportation and warehousing sector added 8,800 jobs in February. Construction added 58,000 jobs, and manufacturing gained 28,000 jobs.
