AT&T expands communications for fleets, workers with ‘Push-to-X’

AT&T has added a new “Push-to-X” feature to its Enhanced Push-to-Talk (EPTT) service that was launched five years ago. EPTT is used by businesses with workers in the field – from service fleets to government agencies, construction or delivery companies – to stay in touch, instantly, with their employees.

With the latest Push-to-X update, field workers can send secure texts, photos, videos, voice recordings, files and location data to groups and contacts through LTE or Wi-Fi.

An installer or delivery person, for example, can share real-time updates by showing what they’re seeing, rather than describing it. Similarly, dispatchers can share files of maps or building schematics of unknown areas with support teams.

Other new features of EPTT include:

  • Location-based services – For teams to more easily coordinate, and to help supervisors strategically assign work to those closest to the job. New geo-fence alerts can help supervisors keep team members out of dangerous areas.
  • Voice message fallback – To reach workers who don’t have their AT&T EPTT device on them at all times.
  • Easier adoption – The upgrade includes a customizable user interface with 8 assignable talk group soft keys and 1-touch operation of a traditional radio.
  • Better Integration – AT&T EPTT users can connect all of their major 2-way radio suppliers directly to AT&T’s push-to-talk service, and take advantage of API’s as well as integrate with AT&T field management applications like Workforce Manager and Fleet Complete.

AT&T says that EPTT also integrates with AT&T Dynamic Traffic Management (ADTM) to help businesses prioritize critical applications and data transmissions through the AT&T 4G LTE network. ADTM helps to alleviate the effects of congestion on the network, especially when responsiveness is a top priority.
