Brett Merrit, vice president of Cummins on-highway engine business, says the X12’s power-to-weight ratio is well suited for the refuse market and other weight sensitive vocational applications. The Cummins X12 boasts an engine weight of 2,050 pounds that delivers up to 500 horsepower, and offers a weight savings of 733 pounds versus Cummins’ previous 12-liter engine.
“This new engine puts more cash in our customers’ pockets, plain and simple,” says Autocar President Jim Johnston.
The X12 uses Cummins’ Single Module aftertreatment system, which takes up to 60 percent less space and weighs up to 40 percent less than prior aftertreatment configurations.
Combined engine and aftertreatment weight for the X12 is around 2,240 pounds, Cummins says.
The X12 will be available in Autocar’s ACX starting in the fourth quarter of 2018.
