Two new products were launched this week that give drivers, fleets and shippers improved routing and tracking capabilities.

Omnitracs added COVID-focused location insights to its Fleet Mapping tool for fleet managers to plan safer and more effective routes for drivers.

“Safe and timely service has been a part of C.R. England’s core values since its inception,” said Dustin England, vice president of safety and compliance at C.R. England, a refrigerated truckload carrier based in Salt Lake City, Utah. “Partnering with Omnitracs in this uncertain climate has been empowering for our fleet managers. These datasets will help them understand the potential risks, adding an additional layer of protection to our load planning strategy.”

The datasets provided in the new Fleet Mapping view come from Johns Hopkins University and the Kaiser Family Foundation, and include:

  • New COVID-19 cases and deaths in the last 7 days for the location
  • Quarantine and stay at home restrictions
  • Group and gathering limitations
  • Restaurant limitations and business closures

“We believe that serving up timely insights about locations is a critical component for making fleets more efficient and helping to improve driver satisfaction. The integration of COVID-19 data into our products is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of where we are going with location intelligence,” said Michal Yariv, head of Omnitracs’ Innovation Lab.

The new location intelligence feature is complimentary and is available to all of Omnitracs’ Enterprise Services customers.

The other new development comes from FourKites, a supply chain visibility platform, and addresses the complexity of calculating estimated time of arrivals (ETAs) for LTL freight because of multiple terminal stops and widely variable transit times.

“The ability to proactively manage exceptions for LTL shipments means better planning, smoother operations and improved visibility for customers,” said Dustin Braun, senior director of logistics, Land O’ Lakes. “Predicting accurate arrival times for LTL loads has always been one of the harder problems in supply chain. This is a genuine breakthrough in real-time visibility, and we are happy to have collaborated with FourKites to help make this innovation happen.”

FourKites’ new Dynamic ETA for LTL gives shippers, carriers and 3PLs the ability to track less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments from pre-pickup to proof of delivery, and includes automated PRO number generation and document retrieval capabilities. FourKites said the ETAs are six times more accurate than industry-standard ETAs, and confer benefits such as reduced customer service calls and improved customer service ratings.
