Xata Corp. (www.xata.com) will roll out next-generation Fleet Performance Management (FPM) applications and a new onboard computer to enable its fleet optimization solutions for the for-hire trucking market. A trailer-tracking-and-reporting tool is scheduled for release in late 2009, followed by electronic, graphical driver logs in early 2010. Later in 2010, Xata plans to deliver a complete reporting and analytics package.

Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com) and Wandering WiFi announced an alliance to deliver a new Premium Wi-Fi Service on Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform 200 Series (MCP200) via Wandering WiFi’s network of 700-plus Wi-Fi truckstop hotspots.

PeopleNet (www.peoplenetonline.com) announced that Dart Transit Co. is installing its Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications system. PeopleNet also announced that its PerformX engine monitoring system is fully compatible with Hino engines in their medium-duty trucks, model years 2008-2010.

Xerox Corp. and Affiliated Computer Services – providers of ACS TripPak Services (www.trippak.com) – announced a definitive agreement for Xerox to acquire ACS in a cash-and-stock transaction.

GE Asset Intelligence (www.ge.com/assetintelligence) announced that Star Leasing selected its VeriWise trailer tracking for its fleet of lease and rental trailers.

SkyBitz (www.skybitz.com) will offer cellular-based GPS tracking options by leveraging the KORE Telematics network.

CarrierWeb (www.carrierweb.com) added new features to its electronic onboard recording system for electronic logs, LogsManager. Drivers can review their status on in-cab displays, and dispatchers can monitor driver availability via the CarrierWeb customer website.
