Mobileye’s Enhancement BoxMobileye, a provider of collision avoidance systems, has made the Enhancement Box available as a companion product to its 5 series collision avoidance system. The Enhancement Box can be used to automatically activate different functions of the vehicle, such as turning on the hazard lights or turning off the radio, when safety alerts are generated.
Using its three configurable outputs, the Enhancement Box can be connected to different functions of the vehicle providing fleet and safety managers the ability to tailor the system to their needs, the company says. For example, connecting the hazard lights to the Enhancement Box can cause them to be lit or blink when a forward collision warning is activated. This enhances the forward collision warning by not only notifying the driver, but also alerting drivers following behind of a potential problem.
In addition to the hazard lights, other functions that can be connected to the Enhancement Box for added safety include:
- The car radio can be muted to ensure that the audio alerts are heard
- Haptic warning can be added via a seat vibrator for those for whom the audio alerts are not sufficient
- Factory cruise control can be deactivated to provide greater control of the vehicle – the first Retrofit Enhanced Cruise Control (RECC) system of its kind
- Any function or third party device that has a discrete input
Any of the functions noted can be connected to the Mobileye warning system to enhance its safety features, including forward collision warning, headway monitoring and warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, and speed limit indication.
The new Enhancement Box also provides improved compatibility with older vehicles. Used together with the Mobileye 5 series system, it allows for analog integration with vehicles that are not equipped with CAN or J-bus signals.
