The regulatory and legislative challenges facing our industry are more complex, and more consequential, than ever before.
That’s why grassroots advocacy has never been more important. And that’s exactly why we’re calling on you to join us in Washington, D.C. on September 30 for TCA’s Call on Washington to speak directly with lawmakers and agency leaders who shape the policies that impact how we operate, recruit, maintain compliance, and stay profitable.
It’s also a chance to remind those in power that behind every regulation and headline is a professional driver, a dispatcher, a technician, and a business owner working hard to keep America moving.
One of the most powerful aspects of COW is that the message comes from you.
If predatory towing is impacting your bottom line, talk about that. If nuclear verdicts are keeping you up at night, bring it up. If the independent contractor model is core to how your company operates and you’re worried about threats to its future, we want you to say so. And if you simply want to echo the industry’s need for safer truck parking or sensible infrastructure funding, that’s just as important.
We’ll help you prepare. You’ll be joined by other trucking leaders and TCA staff who’ve walked these halls before. But the power of this event comes from our industry authentically telling our story.
What’s at stake right now?
The current policy environment in D.C. presents both opportunities and risks. With the return of President Trump to the White House, there’s renewed potential for deregulatory action and a more business-friendly approach to transportation policy. But there’s also unfinished business from the past several years that demands attention:
- Truck parking continues to be woefully underfunded.
- Zero-emission mandates have seen important wins in recent months, thanks in large part to strong industry advocacy pushing back against unrealistic deadlines. But the fight isn’t over.
- Lawsuit abuse and nuclear verdicts remain a systemic threat to carrier viability.
- The independent contractor model is under assault from state laws and federal rulemaking that ignore how trucking really works.
- We need stronger enforcement tools, coordinated intelligence sharing, and federal-level attention to the growing threat of cargo theft.
- The Highway Trust Fund continues to face long-term solvency issues. Congress must prioritize a sustainable funding mechanism that ensures continued investment in our nation’s roads and bridges without unfairly targeting the trucking industry.
The trucking industry is incredibly visible, yet our issues are often not well understood by lawmakers unless we take the time to explain them.
There’s no substitute for face-to-face conversation. Legislators respond when they hear how a proposed regulation or funding gap will affect real businesses in their home districts.
Whether you’ve participated in the past or are considering attending for the first time, now is the time to step forward.
Our success, in Congress and with federal agencies, depends on showing that we are not just headlines or data points. We are family businesses, multigenerational carriers, and professional drivers trying to make a living in an industry that keeps this country running.
This year’s Call on Washington will be held on Tuesday, September 30, following TCA’s Fall Business Meetings. You can learn more and register at tcafallcall.com.
