Chevrolet on Friday added a new dock-height Class 6 model to its lineup of low cab forward trucks. Chevrolet launched Class 3, 4 and 5 trucks based on Isuzu’s N-Series last model year.

The 6500XD, which is expected to be available by the end of 2017 for model year 2018, will be available in eight wheelbases and to accommodate bodies up to 30-feet long.

GM Fleet and Commercial Operations Vice President Ed Peper says Chevrolet’s low cab forward dealers and Upfitter Integration Group will work with customers and upfitters to spec the right truck for the job.

“After the sale,” he adds, “our dealers will be there to support customers with extended service hours and work-ready loaners.”

With a maximum GVWR of 25,950 lbs., 6500XD front axles feature a 12,000 lbs. rating. Rear axle ratings are 19,000 lbs.

The truck is equipped with a standard 5.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that delivers 520 lbs.-ft. of torque to an Allison 2500 Series 6-speed automatic transmission with PTO.

Peper says GM’s overall commercial business has been growing steadily, with seven straight months of year-over-year market share gains.

When the 6500XD hits dealerships late this year, it is expected to soon after be joined by an all-new medium duty conventional cab truck.
