Western Star Truck Sales, Inc. announced the availability of its 4800SB all-wheel drive (AWD) model in an 8×8 axle configuration.
Complementing Western Star’s rugged 4800 model lineup, the new configuration provides additional traction for the most extreme off-road conditions, the company says.
Suited for demanding utility, construction, government and refuse applications, the Western Star 4800SB 8×8 all-wheel drive is equipped with a two-speed transfer case which promotes excellent gradability and is ideal for low- and high-speed operations.
“This new configuration provides yet another rugged solution for vocational markets,” says Peter Schimunek, product segment manager, Western Star. “Our continued advancements to the 4800 model provide yet another reliable, high performance solution from Western Star to help our customers tackle the most extreme jobs.”
Spec’d with a 57,000 lbs. tridem rear and a 23,000 lbs. front axle, the 4800SB 8×8 AWD model is ideal for customers operating digger derricks and other specialized heavy equipment. Additionally, the transfer case is equipped with integral air shift controls for front axle engagement and features helical gears with constant mesh to minimize operating noise.
The 4800SB 8×8 all-wheel drive truck is available with power ratings from 350 to 470 hp and 1250 to 1650 lb-ft of torque and features a short 109” BBC to provide optimal power and maneuverability in tight work spaces. The 4800SB is also spec’d with an air ride suspension for a more comfortable ride.
