Details of Tesla's Electric SemiWhile Tesla passed along plenty of news last week when unveiling its electric Semi, it did not deliver on four major points: vehicle weight, horsepower, torque and price.

Though Tesla founder Elon Musk has been quiet on Twitter about that, the company has released a price guide for the Class 8 regional hauler.

A 300-mile variant of the Semi will cost $150,000; the 500-mile model, $180,000; and a Founders Series will run $200,000, according to Tesla’s website.

A reservation cost for the truck has also increased four-fold – jumping from $5,000 to $20,000 in less than 10 days. Those wanting to reserve the Founders Series model will have to shell out $200,000 up front. Walmart and J.B. Hunt are among the fleets that have reserved the Semi.

Musk reported that lower energy costs for the truck over a million miles adds up to a savings of around $200,000 over conventional fuel costs. He said the truck is guaranteed not to break down for a million miles.

Production is slated for 2019.
