A. Duie Pyle earns ATA President’s Trophy a second time

For the second time, A. Duie Pyle was awarded the American Trucking Associations President’s Trophy – the highest safety award available to motor carriers in the United States. The President’s Trophy is presented by ATA and its Safety Management Council to one carrier in each of the following categories: Under 25 Million Miles (small fleet); 25 to 100 Million Miles (mid-size fleet); and Over 100 Million Miles (large fleet). West Chester, Pa.-based A. Duie Pyle earned the award in the mid-size fleet category. Other fleets awarded the 2009 ATA President’s Trophy, sponsored by Great West Casualty Co., were Wal-Mart Transportation, Bentonville, Ark., large fleet; and CVS Transportation, Woonsocket, R.I., small fleet.
The awards were presented during the Safety Management Council’s recent Safety & Human Resources National Conference & Exhibition in Baltimore. Individual award recipients included:
• ATA National Driver of the Year: Keith Suits, Rite Aide Rome Distribution Center, Rome, N.Y.
• National Safety Director of the Year: John Spiros, Roehl Transport Inc., Marshfield, Wis.
• Excellence in Safety: North Carolina Trucking Association
• Excellence in Human Resource Management: Pitt Ohio Express, Pittsburgh
• Leadership Award: Michael Baker, Usher Transport Inc., Louisville, Ky.
