ArvinMeritor, Troy, Mich., introduced a new tandem axle that is designed to reduce problems associated with driveline angularity. The company says the new axle tandem, called the MT-40-143-MA-N, virtually eliminates vibration through the drivetrain. This tandem carries a 40,000-lb GAWR, and features a rear carrier that has an amboid gear design. This design places the pinion gear above the centerline of the ring gear. By positioning the pinion higher in the carrier, engineers at ArvinMeritor were able to reduce the working angles of the interaxle driveshaft, thus minimizing vibration. Reduced vibration limits cab noise and vibration while minimizing damage to all other drivetrain components.
