Roadway Corp. announced Aug. 22 that it has agreed to purchase Lebanon, Pa.-based Arnold Industries, which includes Arnold Transportation Services and New Penn Motor Express. The deal also gives Roadway the option to purchase Arnold’s logistics operations for $105 million. The complete transaction is worth an estimated $475 million.
Volvo Trucks North America agreed to sell its Xpeditor product line to Grand Vehicle Works Holdings LLC and to license the Autocar truck brand name to Autocar LLC, a subsidiary of Grand Vehicle. Sale of the Xpeditor line of low cabover Class 8 trucks was a condition of the Justice Department’s approval of AB Volvo’s acquisition of Renault V.I. and Mack Trucks.
Medium and heavy truck sales were 35 percent lower in June 2001 than in June 2000, continuing a general decline over the past 10 months, according to the latest Transportation Indicators report from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The monthly report, available at www.bts.gov, provides information on more than 90 trends in the areas of safety, mobility, economic growth, the environment and national security.
