The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a final rule last month requiring motor carriers to file new Form MCS-150s every 24 months under a staggered filing schedule based on their USDOT numbers. For all practical purposes, the rule is the same as the interim final rule the agency adopted in November 2000 to implement a requirement of the 1999 motor carrier safety law.
One thing that has changed since the interim rule is carriers’ options for filing new and updated MCS-150s. Carriers can now file online (See “Update your MCS-150 online,” CCJ, February 2002, page 12).
