International is increasing the price of its medium-duty diesel engines by $1,850 per unit, effective this October.

The price increase, which the company calls an “emissions-related surcharge,” will apply to four engine lines from 175 to 330 horsepower: the V-8 T444E and VT 365, and the I-6 DT 466 and DT 530.

The engines are used in International 4000, 5000 and 7000 Series trucks.

A company spokesman said the surcharge is necessary to recoup “hundreds of millions of dollars” in research and development costs for new engines that will meet upcoming tougher emissions standards.
