The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Special Programs Administration has issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking to consider alternatives for reducing safety risks associated with the transportation of flammable liquids in unprotected product piping – known as wetlines – on DOT-specification cargo tank motor vehicles. RSPA is seeking answers to various questions in an effort to determine whether further regulatory action is warranted. Any rulemaking in this area would be conducted in conjunction with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, RSPA said.

Comments are due June 10. For a copy of the advance notice of proposed rulemaking, visit this site and search Docket No. 6223.
