International Truck and Engine Corp. selected IBM to develop a suite of interactive communications services for the commercial vehicle marketplace. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. These new telematics services are expected to debut in North American production vehicles next year.

The telematics system powered by IBM technology will be delivered through several projects spanning three years. It will offer International’s fleet operating customers benefits such as increased vehicle uptime through the use of monitoring and diagnostics/prognostics to reduce unscheduled downtime and costs, the company says. International plans to make telematics services available to the aftermarket as well.
