Prime Inc., the largest refrigerated carrier in North America, has signed a three-year purchase agreement with trailer manufacturer Wabash National Corp. for 3,000 refrigerated vans. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The agreement for Wabash National’s ArcticLite trailers includes an option for Springfield, Mo.-based Prime Inc. to expand the total number of units to 5,000 over the next six years. Trailer production is expected to begin in September.

“We conducted a thorough assessment of leading refrigerated trailer models to identify the best solution for our operation,” said Robert Low, Prime Inc.’s founder and chief executive officer. “After much due diligence, we found that Wabash National possesses exceptional refrigerated trailer design and technology.”

“We are pleased with the opportunity to partner with the nation’s largest refrigerated carrier, Prime Inc.” said Bill Greubel, Wabash National’s president and CEO. “This is a powerful testament to the quality and performance of Wabash National’s refrigerated van line.”
