The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ Freight Transportation Services Index was 113.1 in May, an increase of half a point from April’s 112.6.

It was the third consecutive monthly increase. A year ago, the freight index was 110.5.

The TSI is a seasonally adjusted index of the month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by the for-hire transportation industries, including truck, railroad, air, inland waterway, pipeline and local transit. A passenger component is computed separately.

Additional information on the TSI is available at the BTS website, www.bts.gov.
