Accubuilt says it has taken a Ford pickup body and designed it to be stronger and more efficient for placement on a F-450 or F-550 chassis.

“It’s still a pickup,” says Ken Earnest, a Ford marketing manager. It’s easier to get in, get out or drive around town without a trailer, and it’s not subject to excise taxes. “This is ideal for the hotshot trucker,” Earnest says. “Its powertrain is designed for heavier loads.”

Accubuilt’s Super Duty pickups pull up to 24,900 pounds. The 8-foot bed can handle up to 11,300 pounds, and the maximum gross weight is 33,000 pounds. Power choices include a 6-liter V8 diesel with 325 hp and 570 lb/ft of torque and a 6.8-liter gasoline-powered V10 with 362 hp and 457 lb/ft of torque. Automatic and manual transmissions are available, but Accubuilt and Ford recommend an automatic.

Standard equipment includes a full-size spare tire and a mid-mounted, 50-gallon fuel tank. Options include trim and graphics packages, air suspension and fifth wheels.

“Accubuilt’s Super Duty pickups are rugged, visually pleasing and retain the original box while providing the higher-range towing and payload specifications of Class 4 and 5 vehicles,” says Larry Savage, Ford F-Series commercial truck marketing manager.
