Xata Corp., a provider of onboard fleet management systems for private fleet transportation, has announced record shipments of more than 8,500 onboard computer systems in its 2005 fiscal year ended Sept. 30. That represents a 78 percent increase over fiscal 2004 and a 196 percent increase over fiscal 2003.

Xata says its onboard fleet management solution now is installed in more than 45,000 trucks across North America. In addition, the company reported that for the first time, shipments of Xatanet, Xata’s next-generation Web-based solution, exceeded those of OpCenter, Xata’s traditional software-based enterprise client/server system.

“With our rapidly increasing install base of over 45,000 trucks, we have only scratched the surface of penetrating the broader market of 3.2 million trucks operating in private fleets in North America,” says Craig Fawcett, chairman and chief executive officer of Minneapolis-based Xata. “Furthermore, as a result of our strong investments in product development and customer retention, we are positioning to enable our Fortune 500 base of OpCenter customers to migrate to our subscription fee-based Xatanet platform.”
