Nighttime lanes closures on Interstate 5 in Everett, Wash. are planned this week so that construction workers can place 15 steel girder beams for a new exit ramp.

The northbound lanes will be closed tonight, Jan. 9 and Tuesday night, and the southbound lanes will be closed Wednesday and Thursday nights, says Charlie DeGasparis, Atkinson CH2M Hill’s project engineer for the I-5 widening.

The work is being done to create a flyover right-hand exit to Broadway, a main street in downtown Everett, DeGasparis says. When the exit ramp is completed in June, the current left-hand Broadway exit will be closed, and reopened later as an I-5 exit for carpool traffic only.

The new ramp is part of the state’s $220 million plan to widen I-5 in Everett over the next three years.
