The two westbound lanes of the Interstate 10 twin-span bridge over Lake Pontchartrain into New Orleans reopened Jan. 6, but not to oversize and overweight loads. Because the repaired bridge has no shoulder, oversize and overweight loads headed to New Orleans from Mississippi still must make the long detour around Lake Pontchartrain to I-55 South, adding 59 miles to the route.
