Vertical lift module designed for safety

The Remstar Shuttle XP Vertical Lift Module (VLM) is designed with automatic shutter doors that form a physical barrier between the operator and the VLM’s extractor shaft for added safety and product protection in vehicle part applications. The Shuttle XP VLM is an enclosed system of vertically arranged trays, extraction platform and computerized controls designed for automated retrieval of stored materials.

According to Remstar, shutter doors allow increased inserter/extractor speeds while meeting worldwide safety standards, and to protect the operator or material from accidentally falling into the Shuttle XP VLM shaft during operation, shutter doors automatically close during all vertical extractor operations. These steel parting doors form a physical barrier between the operator and the shaft and are particularly important in multi-access units that span more than one level, since they allow operators on multiple floors to work on presented trays safely while the unit is delivering trays to other extraction windows, the company says.

Since doors close automatically between operations, stored items are protected from unauthorized removal. Shutter doors also help protect operators from the potential health hazards of blowing cold air, dust and other airborne particulates by eliminating the “air pump” effect that occurs during extractor operation. The doors also reduce operating noise to help meet OSHA standards.
