F.T. Silfies, a regional mid-Atlantic dry bulk carrier, is opening a new terminal in Hagerstown, Md. to service a recent multi-year agreement to haul cement out of the Essroc plant in Martinsburg, W.Va.

“We’re very excited about the opportunity to expand organically with a current customer and open an additional terminal in western Maryland,” says Jim Niness, chief operating officer of Nazareth, Pa.-based Silfies. “We have worked very hard to service Essroc out of Nazareth and gain their confidence to add an additional house carrier at another location. Our strategic expansion plans start with letting our customers know that we are not just a Lehigh Valley regional carrier dedicated to cement, and we are willing to invest the necessary equity to grow where it makes sense.”

Niness says Silfies will operate 18-20 tractors and have a full service shop on site. “We have been planning this expansion for some time and had placed an order of new equipment in anticipation of the award,” says Niness. The terminal is set to go live on April 1.
