Millis Transfer raises per diem rate

Millis Transfer — based in Black River Falls, Wis. — recently increased the company’s per diem rate from 8 cents per mile to 10.

Millis says its per diem program allows drivers to do much more than just save money on taxes: They also can earn two additional weeks of vacation during their first year with the company and enjoy holiday pay, larger safety bonuses and increases in vacation pay.

Nathan Meisgeier, president of Omaha, Nebraska-based Werner Enterprises, said his carrier is committing to hire 1,400 veterans over the coming year as part of the Freedom Haulers initiative.
