Vanguard National Trailer Corp. introduced a new trailer, the VXP Composite Plate Freight Van, at the recent Mid-America Trucking Show.

“This unit was developed because plate trailers have become an industry standard,” says Bob Taylor, Vanguard’s director of trailer sales. “A lot of trucking companies have found that these trailers are best for their needs. And plate trailers really cut down on maintenance costs.”

According to Vanguard:

  • Composite sidewall panels, which carry a 10-year warranty, sandwich a foamed plastic core between two galvanized steel cover sheets, providing strength and durability against abrasion and damage;
  • Rust-preventative primer and polyester finish coats are baked onto the cover sheets for longevity;
  • The panels are joined by steel posts paired with galvanized internal posts with log slots;
  • Smooth, rounded rivet heads provide a snag-free interior sidewall; and
  • The new trailer uses only LED lights, making it legal in both California and Canada.
  • The trailer also comes with a number of galvanized surfaces, including the rear frame, rear underside guard, landing gear brackets and bracing, threshold plate to protect the rear floor from forklift damage and a one-piece front understructure between the upper coupler and the landing gear, which provides floor support and also acts as a tire protector plate, the company says. The trailer also comes with welded steel gussets on every crossmember to reinforce the side rails.
