Michael S. Bare Sr. has been named president and chief executive officer of the Shevell Group of transportation companies. Consisting of real estate, trucking and logistics companies, the Shevell Group includes New England Motor Freight, Carrier Industries, Eastern Freight Ways, Apex Logistics, New England World Transport and NEMF of Canada.

Bare comes to the Shevell Group from Con-Way Central Express, where he was vice president of sales. He joined CCX in 1984 shortly after its start-up and rapidly advanced through increasing levels of responsibility as an account executive, service center manager and regional manager. Bare was instrumental in CCX’s Midwest expansion and in revitalizing a Con-Way presence in the Northeast. He also was responsible for the business plan, start-up and leadership of Con-Way Logistics, an “asset-light” third-party logistics provider.

“We are very happy to have Mike as part of the team as we move forward in the 21st century,” says Myron P. “Mike” Shevell, chairman of the Elizabeth, N.J.-based Shevell Group. “His presence will strengthen our team, and we look forward to great things continuing to happen at our companies. Mike brings a mindset, a track record and energy that will build on our successful past and shape our future.”

Shevell previously had been serving as the company’s president and CEO, and he will remain active with the company as board chairman.
