Siricomm, an applications service provider and nationwide broadband wireless network operator serving the highway transportation industry, has announced that it has signed an agreement with PrePass to provide wireless broadband connectivity to PrePass’ 259 weigh station sites. Siricomm says the agreement will expand its nationwide footprint to more than 700 sites.

Siricomm has purchased equipment in anticipation of the rollout as PrePass secures the various states’ Departments of Transportation permits for installation at the weigh stations. PrePass is to pay for bandwidth at these locations and cover certain capital costs should the costs exceed a uniform price, according to Siricomm.

PrePass is an automatic vehicle identification system that allows participating transponder-equipped commercial vehicles to bypass designated weigh stations, port-of-entry facilities and agricultural interdiction facilities. Cleared vehicles may proceed at highway speed, eliminating the need to stop, which means greater efficiency for shippers and improved safety for all highway users.

Siricomm’s Internet service provider product, InTouch, will be available to PrePass’ 400,000-plus members, and additionally, PrePass will be reselling the InTouch service to various law enforcement officials through its regional salespeople to allow the law enforcement officials to access their databases at these PrePass and other Siricomm network installations. Additionally, PrePass is to resell the various Siricomm suite of applications while collaborating with Siricomm to develop other solutions that address the industry’s needs.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with PrePass, an important organization in the trucking industry,” says David Mendez, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Joplin, Mo.-based Siricomm. “We continue to expand the footprint of our network as we increase the density virtually nationwide. We are also excited to have PrePass on board as a value-added reseller. They are a well-respected player in the trucking industry, and their reach will be beneficial to Siricomm. Finally, by partnering with PrePass, we are further building a core customer base from which we plan to offer additional products and services over our network in the future.”
