Marten Transport Ltd. recently announced the recipients of the 2006 Randolph L. Marten Scholarship. The scholarship, named after the company’s current president and chief executive officer, awards children of Marten employees with $1,500 to be used toward furthering their education.
Candidates are selected based on academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities. They also are picked based on honors, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and an outside appraisal by the Scholarship America organization. Since the inception of the program, the company has presented more than 58 students with scholarships.
This year’s recipients included:
Kayla Larson – She is attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, in Eau Claire, Wis., to study elementary education. She is the daughter of Ed and Faye Larson of Mondovi, Wis.
Ellen Forde – She is attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, in Stevens Point, Wis., to study psychology. She is the daughter of Nancy and David and Carol Forde of Strum, Wis.
Molly Nash – She is attending the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. Her major field of study is undecided. She is the daughter of Tim and Maura Nash of Eau Claire.
Lisa Norby – She is attending Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire to study health/information technology. She is the daughter of Diane and Calvin Norby of Strum.
Paul Sobolik – He is attending Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa, to study business. He is the son of Larry and Denise Sobolik of Cresco, Iowa.
Nanette Platter – She is attending the University of St. Thomas in Houston to study education. She is the daughter of Marshall Platter and Ivette Sardina of Spring, Texas.
BreAnn Sundquist – She is attending Northwest University of Kirkland, Wash., to study nursing. She is the daughter of Tim and Chris Sundquist of Spokane, Wash.
Samantha Brown – She is attending the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., to study economics. She is the daughter of Walter and Peggy Brown of Vine Grove, Ky.
